Qantas and Atlas Air to replace 747-400Fs with 747-8Fs in trans Pacific ACMI service

4 April, 2019

Qantas Freight and Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings announced (04-Apr-2019) Atlas Air will operate two Boeing 747-8F aircraft in ACMI service for Qantas on trans Pacific services from late Jul-2019. The aircraft will replace two Atlas Air 747-400Fs currently in service for Qantas. The new aircraft will operate between 10 cargo hubs in Australia, China and the US. The 747-400Fs are expected to enter ACMI service for other Atlas Air customers. Qantas domestic and freight CEO Andrew David said the 747-8Fs will enable the airline to offer additional capacity, greater reliability and efficiency and "a more competitive offering in the Australia-China-US freight markets". Mr David commented: "We are seeing strong growth in demand driven by e-commerce, fresh produce, electronics and mining equipment across our international freight network".
