Qantas: Airbus and Boeing are 'getting closer' to meeting 'Project Sunrise' goals

Qantas Group CEO Alan Joyce reported Airbus and Boeing are "getting closer" to developing an aircraft for the airline that is capable of operating ultra-long haul flights from the Australian east coast to the US east coast and Europe with a full load of passengers and freight (Bloomberg, 05-Feb-2018). Both OEMs have aircraft that in development or entering service that can "nearly do it" said Mr Joyce. Qantas engineers are working with the aircraft manufacturers to develop a "game changing aircraft" that can operate nonstop services which offer more convenience for passengers. The efforts are known as 'Project Sunrise'.
