CAPA: Philadelphia bearing the brunt of American Airlines seasonal capacity cuts

9 April, 2020

CAPA - Centre for Aviation, in a report entitled: 'COVID-19: American Airlines' international route reductions', stated (07-Apr-2020) American Airlines' decision to cut capacity by 60% will include a mixture of delayed resumption of services in some markets and the complete elimination of seasonal services in other markets. Primarily, Philadelphia, a hub utilised by American Airlines to launch secondary trans Atlantic services, would seem to be bearing the brunt of seasonal route cuts, with pre COVID-19 levels of demand to these secondary markets not expected to rematerialise until 2021 or later. Additionally, American and Alaska Airlines previously announced plans to enter a partnership, through which American also reported it would launch service from Seattle to London and Bangalore in Mar-2021. However, plans for such service is now no longer certain. [more - CAPA Analysis]
