Nuremberg Airport MD finds short haul air traffic ban ‘absolutely absurd’

Nuremberg Airport MD Michael Hupe said he believes a ban on short haul air transport is “absolutely absurd”, adding short haul routes are important for feeder traffic used by business travellers (dpa, 11-Jun-2019). He argued there would be little difference in terms of fuel consumption and environmental impact between aircraft used currently and cars used to replace travel on city pairs unserved by rail. Mr Hupe pointed out if 80 passengers could no longer fly between Nuremberg and Munich then there would be around 75 additional cars on the road between the two cities.
