Norwegian Government passes biofuel legislation

22 November, 2019

Norway's Government passed legislation requiring jet fuel suppliers to blend 0.5% of biofuel into their fuels, effective Jan-2020 (Reuters, 22-Nov-2019). Climate and Environment Minister Ola Elvestuen said: "We have to create the market. There is strong demand for biofuel" however "not enough is produced". Widerøe said "as a first step we would like to see national requirements of biofuel being replaced by international requirements" to ensure a "level playing field between airlines", however Norwegian Air reported "with other (biofuel) volume obligations in the future, we could easily get a supply shortage".
