Nonstop Vietnam-US market 'full of potential for local airlines': CAAV director general

Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) director general Đinh Việt Thắng commented on the potential for nonstop services between Vietnam and the US, stating: "Nonstop flights from Vietnam to the US will be a brand new market full of potential for local airlines, as no international airline has operated them so far" (VnExpress, 13-Feb-2019). Vietnam is expected to receive a Category 1 rating under the US FAA's International Aviation Safety Assessment programme, enabling the launch of direct services between the countries. Vietnam Airlines is reportedly considering acquiring aircraft capable of operating nonstop between Vietnam and the US.
