New Zealand visitor arrivals up 10% in 2016/17

Tourism NZ reported (15-Nov-2017) data from its 2016/17 Annual Report, showing visitor arrivals to New Zealand increased 10% year-on-year to 3.6 million, and holiday arrivals increased 12% to 1.9 million. Tourism NZ added this puts New Zealand ahead of global tourism trends, with international visitor arrivals up 3.9% for 2016 and up 6% in 1H2017. Other key highlights include:

  • NZD10.3 billion (USD7.1 billion) total visitor spend;
  • Average spend per visitor of NZD3800 (USD2613).
