New Zealand Tourism Minister: New tourism charge won't be introduced until feedback is considered

27 November, 2017

New Zealand Tourism Minister Kelvin Davis said the plan to introduce a NZD25 (USD17) per visitor levy on international visitors will "be worked on next year" and no final decision on the charge will be made until the end of a feedback period (The New Zealand Herald, 27-Nov-2017). The levy would be added to existing charges. 60% would be dedicated to tourism infrastructure, with the remainder for conservation projects. Tourism Industry Aotearoa has opposed the charge, stating that as proposed it would be impossible to implement.
