5 July, 2017

New Zealand's Green Party pledged (05-Jul-2017) to develop Auckland Airport's light rail link within four years, with construction to commence as early as 2017, if it wins the upcoming election in Sep-2017. The Party transport spokesperson Julie Anne Genter stated: "Light rail to the airport is the most urgently needed transport project in Auckland", reducing travel time between the airport and city centre to 43 minutes and providing "far more consistent…travel times". Ms Genter admitted aiming to complete the project by "2021 is an ambitious goal", and "It will be difficult but not technically impossible…we can make this happen". The Party plans to fund the project with national transport budget. [more - original PR]
