New Zealand Government provides USD24m to upgrade Chatham Island Karewa Airport

New Zealand's Government announced (02-Aug-2020) the Chatham Islands will receive close to NZD40 million (USD26.5 million) for projects that will improve its infrastructure, add to its attraction as a visitor destination, and create jobs through a planned aquaculture venture. The Government has agreed to provide NZD36 million (USD23.8 million) for an infrastructure project to lengthen and strengthen the runway at Chatham Island Karewa Airport. The project will create up to 20 jobs during the construction stage. Works will allow larger aircraft to use the airport, with work including building, lighting and fencing upgrades.
