New Plymouth District Council Mayor Neil Holdom said Air New Zealand's possible reduction in services to New Plymouth Airport do not affect the council's plans to develop a new NZD28.7 million (USD18.7 million) terminal for the airport (Stuff, 29-May-2019). Mr Holdom commented: "It's a 50, 60, 70 year asset [proposed new terminal] that is built on our expectations of where the airline industry is going in New Zealand". Air New Zealand plans to reduce domestic capacity by 2% year-on-year from 01-Jul-2019, with a stated commitment to maintaining existing routes.
