New ownership helps TAP to deliver healthy flows

    At the recent IATA AGM in Cancun, Mexico, Fernando Pinto, chief executive officer, TAP Portugal, explained how since its privatisation the carrier has been targeting the United States of America for network growth while the economy is Brazil, its primary long-haul destination, continues to recover. He highlighted the importance of its partnership with JetBlue Airways feeding its long-haul routes in North America and the success of routes in Europe and Africa. He also noted the importance of Lisbon as a home market for it being able to compete with rivals, including LCCs and discusses the airline’s new regional ‘express’ brand, how its successful fleet rollover from Fokker to Embraer E-Jet equipment has provided new network opportunities, plans for utilising the A321neoLR across the Atlantic as well as into Africa and Europe; and concerns over capacity constraints at Lisbon Airport and the need for the timely construction of a new international airport for the city to meet demand.
