Neste and Air BP partner to increase SAF volumes fivefold in Europe in 2020/2021

19 August, 2020

Neste signed (19-Aug-2020) an agreement with Air BP to expand the volume of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) produced in Europe fivefold in 2020 and 2021 compared to 2019. The increased supply of SAF comes in response to rising demand from existing and new airline customers, as well as from Norway, where there is a mandate requiring 0.5% of all jet fuel sold to be SAF derived. In turn, Air BP will make Neste-produced SAF available at selected airports in Europe, with deliveries to airports including Stockholm and Oslo expected to begin in the coming weeks. Neste stated its SAF product is produced from 100% renewable waste and residue raw materials and can reduce up to 80% of greenhouse gas emissions compared to conventional jet fuel. It currently can be blended at up to 50% to fuel aircraft. Neste aims to increase SAF production to around 1.5 million tonnes p/a by 2023 through its Singapore refinery expansion as well as potential additional investment into its Rotterdam refinery.
