MBIE: Intl visitor spending at USD7.2bn in year ended Sep-2018 with 14% rise in China spending

    New Zealand‘s Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) reported (15-Nov-2018) international visitor spending increased from around NZD10.5 billion (USD7.2 billion) to NZD11.1 billion (USD7.6 billion) year-on-year in 12 months ended Sep-2018. China spend contributed to the overall rise, up 14% to NZD1.6 billion (USD1.1 billion) with an 11% increase in Chinese visitors. A weaker NZD against the EUR has driven European spending in New Zealand. Total visitor spending from with Germany is up 16% to NZD572 million (USD390.6 million) – an average spend per visitor up 17% to NZD5900 (USD4029).
