Lufthansa to suspend A380 operations until at least 2022; Air France plans A380 farewell flight

Lufthansa Frankfurt hub CEO Klaus Froese reported the airline will suspend A380 operations until at least 2022, provided there is high enough demand on certain intercontinental city pairs (Bloomberg, 19-Jun-2020). He said the odds of the airline resuming A380 operations at Frankfurt Airport are “close to zero”, adding “we will have to see” for A380 operations in Munich. As previously reported by CAPA, Lufthansa plans to reposition its entire remaining A380 fleet to Munich Airport. Meanwhile, Air France, via its official Twitter account, retweeted (19-Jun-2020) a report stating the carrier will perform a special farewell A380 flight over France on 26-Jun-2020 to mark the retirement of its nine A380 aircraft. Air France-KLM CEO Benjamin Smith and Air France CEO Anne Rigail will be in attendance during the ceremony.
