Lufthansa Group would incur EUR4.2bn p/a in costs if required to pay fuel levy

17 December, 2019

Lufthansa Group would reportedly be expected to incur EUR4.2 billion p/a in additional costs associated with potential aviation fuel levies (Spiegel, 16-Dec-2019). The EU exempts commercial aviation from a EUR 33 cents per litre tax on kerosene in its 2003 energy tax directive. As previously reported by CAPA, the European Commission will "look closely" at tax exemptions on aviation fuel in the European Green Deal.
