Lufthansa Group reportedly reconsidering 'major investment' in a restructured Alitalia

31 October, 2019

Lufthansa Group reportedly produced a letter to Ferrovie dello Stato stating it is willing to consider a "major investment" of up to EUR200 million in Alitalia, on the condition the airline undergoes a range of restructuring measures to reduce costs (ANSA/AP/Reuters, 31-Oct-2019). These include a reduction in the cost of aircraft and crews, a cut to fleet and network, an increase in productivity and a preventive agreement on cutting costs with trade unions. The investment also reportedly includes the implementation of a governance structure and a capital injection without the payment of supplementary bonds.
