5 May, 2020

Lufthansa Group executive board chairman and CEO Carsten Spohr, speaking during the company's 2020 annual general meeting, stated (05-May-2020) he expects global travel demand to return to pre-coronavirus levels by 2023 but reiterated this will result in a "significantly smaller" Lufthansa Group structure. "The world is facing one of the worst financial crises since the 1930s", Mr Spohr continued, adding that global aviation is facing "the worst crisis in its history". He pointed out it took less than 65 days for Lufthansa to recede to the level of 65 years ago in terms of traffic volume.
