Long Beach Council awards USD58.8m contract for terminal improvements at Long Beach Airport

Long Beach City Council voted (09-May-2018) to award a three year design-build contract for Long Beach Airport's (California) phase II terminal area improvement project to Swinerton Builders. The contract is valued at USD58.8 million and is divided into phases which include design, pre-construction and construction. Design and construction is expected to commence in 2018 and continue until 2021. Long Beach Airport estimated USD32 million in airport funds will be used in the first year of the project. The amount will allow the design-builder to start work on design for the entire project, including construction of the first three project elements, which are:

  • The ticketing lobby;
  • Consolidated baggage claim;
  • The checked baggage inspection system facility;
  • The final construction elements, expected to be completed in 2021, include:
    • The terminal loop roadway and signage improvements;
    • Consolidated rental car storage and ready return surface lot;
