LH Miles & More suspends points transfer to assess whether transfers constitute e-money transaction

8 June, 2019

Lufthansa (LH) Miles & More frequent flyer programme (FFP) reported it was required to suspend the Miles & More points transfer scheme to assess whether the service constitutes an e-money transaction in the opinion of the German Payment Services Supervision Act (YHBU/onemileatatime.com, 07-Jun-2019). Miles & More stated it "cannot completely rule out" whether the ability to earn loyalty points from FFP partners could be considered an e-money transaction and will suspend all transfer programmes while it verifies "to ensure this is impossible". Marriott confirmed it suspended Miles & More as a Marriott Bonvoy points to miles transfer partner "at the request of Lufthansa Miles & More in connection with German regulations".
