KLM CEO reiterates call for short haul aviation services to move to rail sector

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, via its official Twitter account, reposted (22-Jun-2018) a report confirming commentary from president and CEO Pieter Elbers (NRC, 22-Jun-2018). Mr Elbers reiterated calls for rail transport to succeed aviation on short haul services. “I think of a handful of destinations, up to a distance of 300km, 350km from Amsterdam“, Mr Elbers cited as the most viable. Mr Elbers would like to work with more long distance rail operators to jointly sell tickets, as Air France does between Parisand Brussels. “Everyone wants to travel as cheaply as possible… At the same time, we find the environment increasingly important”, Mr Elbers said.
