KAYAK: Lack of consumer confidence in air travel, rather than hotels or car rental

KAYAK CEO Steve Hafner said he believes it will be "a long time" before consumer confidence and air travel supply return, as airlines are unwilling to operate loss making flights and "will be rational about how they bring those schedules back" (Bloomberg, 16-Jun-2020). According to Mr Hafner, the issue with consumer confidence is "not on the rental car or hotel side, it's on the flight side". He also noted that travel searches are not for "crowded destinations like New York or Paris", but instead for "places with outdoor space, more like Hawaii or [the] Caribbean" and that there is significant airfare discounting occurring.
