Kāpiti Coast District Council considers subsidising Air Chathams

13 June, 2018

Kāpiti Coast District Council (KCDC) stated it has been negotiating with Air Chathams for a few months to operate scheduled Kapiti-Auckland service after Air New Zealand withdrew from the route in Apr-2018 (Radio New Zealand, 12-Jun-2018). Kāpiti Coast Mayor K Gurunathan stated Air New Zealand's Kapiti service contributed more than NZD3 million (USD2.1 million) to the local economy. As previously reported by CAPA, Air Chathams and KCDC met in Apr-2018 to discuss the carrier launching Kapiti-Auckland service, replacing Air New Zealand, which suspended the route on 03-Apr-2018.
