JetBlue Airways introduces Blue Basic fares, to replace Blue Flex with Blue Extra

13 November, 2019

JetBlue Airways introduced (Nov-2019) a new fare option called 'Blue Basic', designed to cater to a "growing customer segment that really values low fares and that are willing to trade off certain benefits" (Reuters, 12-Nov-2019). Passengers who opt for the Blue Basic fare will be charged a fee for seat selection if booking more than 24 hours before departure and will board with one of the last boarding groups, unless they have Mosaic status or purchase an 'Even More Space' seat. Additionally, changes and cancellations will not be allowed, and passengers will earn one TrueBlue point per dollar spent or two points if booked via the carrier's website or app. JetBlue said the Blue Basic fare will be first available on services like Fort Lauderdale to Nassau or from New York to Long Beach, before being introduced on most other routes during the next few months. The carrier also plans to replace Blue Flex with Blue Extra. [more - original PR]
