Japan MLITT to allocate 24 out of 50 additional slots at Tokyo Haneda Airport to Japan-US services

11 February, 2019

Japan's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLITT) reportedly plans to allocate 24 of the 50 additional international daily slots scheduled to become available at Tokyo Haneda Airport in 2020 for the operation of Japan-US services (Nikkei, 09-Feb-2019). The allocation reflects the fact that the additional slots will be available in part due to the US Government permitting commercial aircraft to pass through airspace controlled by US Yokota Air Base in Japan, facilitating the establishment of a new route to Haneda. Japan and the US are expected to evenly divide the 24 new slots, with the remaining slots to be allocated for services connecting Haneda to destinations in Asia and Europe.
