Italian deputy PM: Around 15% stake in Alitalia likely to be held under new rescue plan

Italy‘s Minister of Labour and Deputy Prime Minister Luigi Di Maio reconfirmed the Italian Government is considering holding around a 15% stake in Alitalia in a proposed new rescue plan (il Sole 24 Ore/Reuters, 12-Oct-2018). “If France has 14.3 per cent of Air France… we can imagine a similar level of participation [in Alitalia]”, he said. Mr Di Maio said initial capital would range between EUR1.5 billion to EUR2 billion, adding Alitalia would “purify itself of everything that has not worked until now”. On if China Eastern Airlines or Delta Air Lines partnering internationally with Alitalia, he said he can “neither confirm nor deny” the suggestions.
