International pax to/from Australia up 5% to 3.7m in Jul-2018, Qantas pax share increases

    Australia‘s Bureau of Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Economics (BITRE) reported (03-Oct-2018) the following international traffic highlights to/from Australia for Jul-2018:

    • Passengers: 3.7 million, +4.8% year-on-year;
    • Available seats: 4.7 million, +4.8%;
    • Cargo: 96,010 tonnes, +9.1%;
    • Flights: 17,924, +4.5%;
    • Aircraft movements: 18,451, +2.0%;
    • Top 10 international carriers:
      • Share of passengers carried:
        • Qantas: 17.1%, +0.9ppt;
        • Jetstar: 8.5%, -0.7ppt;
        • Singapore Airlines: 8.0%, -0.3ppt;
        • Emirates: 7.8%, -0.7ppt;
        • Air New Zealand: 6.4%, -0.1ppt;
        • Virgin Australia: 6.2%, stable;
        • Cathay Pacific Airways: 4.2%, stable;
        • AirAsia X: 3.6%, -0.4ppt;
        • Qatar Airways: 3.1%, +0.6ppt;
        • Etihad Airways: 3.2%, -0.3ppt;
      • Share of cargo carried:
        • Singapore Airlines: 16.0%, +0.4ppt;
        • Qantas: 12.0%, -0.4ppt;
        • Emirates: 8.1%, -0.7ppt;
        • Cathay Pacific Airways: 6.6%, -0.4ppt;
        • Air New Zealand: 5.5%, -1.0ppt;
        • China Southern Airlines: 4.0%, +0.3ppt;
        • Qatar Airways: 3.6%, +1.1ppts;
        • Malaysia Airlines: 3.0%, +0.3ppt;
        • Thai Airways: 2.9%, -1.1ppts;

    BITRE also reported LCCs AirAsia X, Cebu Pacific Air, Indonesia AirAsia, Jetstar, Jetstar Asia and Scoot Tigerair accounted for 15.0% of total international passenger traffic to/from Australia in Jul-2018. LCC share in Jul-2017 was 16.7%.
