International pax to/from Australia up 2% to 3.4m in Apr-2018, capacity up 4% to 4.4m

    Australia‘s Bureau of Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Economics (BITRE) reported (02-Jul-2018) the following international traffic highlights to/from Australia for Apr-2018:

    • Passengers: 3.4 million, +1.7% year-on-year;
    • Available seats: 4.4 million, +3.8%;
    • Flights: 16,717, +4.0%;
    • Cargo: 90,666 tonnes, +9.9%;
    • Aircraft movements: 17,167, +4.7%;
    • Top 10 international carriers:
      • Share of passengers carried:
        • Qantas: 17.7%, +1.2ppts;
        • Jetstar: 9.2%, +0.3ppt;
        • Singapore Airlines: 7.8%, -0.1ppt;
        • Emirates: 7.3%, -1.0ppt;
        • Air New Zealand: 6.9%, -0.2ppt;
        • Virgin Australia: 6.1%, +0.3ppt;
        • Cathay Pacific Airways: 4.6%, -0.4ppt;
        • AirAsia X: 3.3%, -1.0ppt;
        • China Southern Airlines: 2.8%, +0.1ppt;
        • Etihad Airways: 2.8%, -0.4ppt;
      • Share of cargo carried:
        • Singapore Airlines: 16.0%, -0.5ppt;
        • Qantas: 11.2%, -0.8ppt;
        • Emirates: 7.9%, -1.8ppts;

    BITRE also reported LCCs AirAsia X, Cebu Pacific Air, Indonesia AirAsia, Jetstar, Jetstar Asia and Scoot Tigerair accounted for 15.7% of total international passenger traffic to/from Australia in Apr-2018. LCC share in Apr-2017 was 17.1%.
