CAPA: Interjet focuses on US-Mexico market as it's challenged by SSJ100 and financial performance

28 January, 2020

CAPA - Centre for Aviation, in a report, entitled: 'Interjet: tough challenges linger but airline paints a positive view', stated (20-Jan-2020) the carrier touts its favourable performance in the US-Mexico transborder market, but it has other challenges to overcome in 2020, including its efforts to shed its Sukhoi Superjet 100 fleet and improving its overall financial performance. Interjet's push into the US occurs as rivals Aeromexico and Volaris cite some rationality in the Mexico-US transborder market after a period of overcapacity during the past couple of years which has pressured yields. Interjet holds a bullish view of Mexico-US market, but it is not yet certain that the carrier can sustain a solid performance in what has been a tough market during the past three to four years.
