Alaska Airlines enjoys Seattle celebrations as first phase of Tacoma International’s new North Satellite opens
Alaska Airlines and the Port of Seattle have celebrated a milestone of growth and passenger experience improvement at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport with the completion of the first phase of the North Satellite modernisation project. As part of the USD658.3 million project, eight new gates, expanded locally-based dining and retail options and the brand-new, flagship Alaska Airlines Lounge have been officially opened. The latter, at 15,800 square feet, is larger than the carrier’s other facilities and features stunning views of the airfield, Olympic Mountains and downtown Seattle. All operations in the North Satellite will transition to the newly-renovated section at the end of July and the remaining original gates will close for renovation over the next two years. Full renovation of the existing North Satellite will be complete in mid-2021 with double the dining and retail space and 20 total gates.
Bidroom moves quickly to take a bite of Apple Pay after it makes its Netherlands debut
Apple Pay has remained unavailable for the Dutch for nearly five years even though it had been rolled out around the world in multiple markets since 2014, but ING card owners from Jun-2019 have been able to pay contactlessly in physical stores, web shops, and within apps. Now, hotel booking platform Bidroom.com has introduced Apple Pay purchases for its customers after moving quickly to incorporate the payment option to meet the needs of its tech-savvy demographic. Apple Pay is available to hotel bookers browsing Bidroom in Safari browser on an Apple device, or alternatively, by those who have their credit card connected to their Wallet app on their iPhones.
Jayride Group’s expansion sees it network grow to more than 3,300 transport companies at more than 1,500 airports
Jayride Group Limited, the global online marketplace for airport transfers, says it has completed the foundation phase of its global transport strategy and expanded its presence in the past year from five to 81 countries, diversifying revenue channel mix and accelerating revenue growth ahead of expectations. The company now has a presence at 1500+ high-volume international airports around the world and is moving into the growth and profit stage of its development. According to Jayride, its marketplace now covers 6.6 billion passenger trips, 85% of airport trips globally and its network covers 3,332 transport companies at 1,511 airports in total. “All the elements are now in place – a robust technology platform, global footprint, world-leading number of transport companies – to scale Jayride’s revenue to profitability without the immediate need for further significant investment,” says its managing director, Rod Bishop.
Brussels remains ’preferred’ events destination for associations in Europe
As Brussels prepares to welcome thousands of tourists this summer, the capital of Europe is confirming its attractiveness as the city for congresses, conferences and events in Europe. The European capital has kept its place ahead of Vienna, Paris, Madrid, London and Barcelona as the most popular location for international association meetings, according to the latest report from the Union of International Associations (UIA). This is the eighth year in succession that the Belgian capital has taken the top spot in Europe in the ranking.
European International tourist arrivals set to grow +3.6% in 2019; down on 2018 on trend
The latest quarterly ‘European Tourism – Trends & Prospects 2019’ report by the European Travel Commission (ETC) shows that demand for tourism in Europe is expected to maintain an upward trajectory over 2019. Despite uncertain trade relationships between China and the US and a slowing Chinese travel demand, a growth rate of +3.6% is predicted, which is more in line with the annual historical average from 2008-2018, but lower than that of 2018 (6.1%).
ParkVia has its eyes on South American as Argentina becomes its latest market
European airport parking company, ParkVia, has continued its international growth with the activation of its 43rd market – Argentina. Bolstering its geographical presence, ParkVia has added three new locations in the nation, enabling it to initiate further expansion across South America alongside existing markets, Brazil and Peru. The announcement will enable the reservation provider to offer its 3.5 million registered users the option of pre-booking their parking online at two of Argentina’s key airports situated in the capital of Buenos Aires – further strengthening its airport parking portfolio. Drivers arriving at the country’s largest international airport – Ezeiza Airport and neighbouring Aeroparque Jorge Newberry will now be able to streamline their travel itineraries with the convenience of pre-booked parking, which in turn will enable operators to manage demand more efficiently, as well as benefit from additional booking streams. To further diversify its offering for its new market of customers, ParkVia has also added Puerto de Buenos Aires to its growing directory of port parking, providing travellers setting sail on a cruise or ferry transfer to Uruguay, the option to reserve parking port-side.
