1 June, 2020

India's Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), via its official Twitter account, directed (29-May-2020) airlines, cockpit crew and air traffic control personnel to be aware of the safety risks posed by locust swarms, particularly during take off and landing, due to "unusually high locust activity" in India in recent days (Live Mint, 29-May-2020). The DGCA stated: "All pilots are also required to share information of locust swarm location if they have sighted any during the flight. As far as possible, it is strongly advised that flights should be avoided through any known locust swarm".
