IATA: North American airlines show broad based decline in EBIT performance in 2Q2018

    IATA, via its Airlines Financial Monitor for Jun-2018 to Jul-2018, reported (19-Aug-2018) initial airline financial data for 2Q2018 points to a “moderate squeeze on airline profitability relative to the same period in 2017”. Across a sample of 42 airlines, the EBIT margin fell from 11.6% to 9.2%. IATA reported the deterioration at an industry wide level was driven by a broad based decline in performance in North America, mainly reflecting higher fuel costs.
