IATA: EBIT margin for European carriers down to -16% in 1Q2020

24 July, 2020

IATA, in its Jul-2020 Europe regional briefing, reported (22-Jul-2020) European carriers posted an EBIT margin of -16.3% in 1Q2020, compared to -5.9% in 1Q2019. Yields contracted most significantly on Europe-North America routes, with a 23.3% year-on-year decrease in May-2020, Europe-Africa (-22.6%) and Within Europe (-16.2%) markets. IATA noted yield data during the lockdown period should be interpreted with caution as the number of tickets sold declined dramatically and part of the sales were arising from repatriation flights.
