IATA calls on Panama and Peru governments to act: 'Operations must be allowed to resume in July'

16 June, 2020

IATA stated (15-Jun-2020) Latin American and Caribbean governments remain the least supportive of aviation, an industry that pre-coronavirus contributed USD167 billion to the region's GDP and supported 7.2 million jobs. IATA forecast a drop of at least USD77 billion in air transport's contribution to GDP with over 3.5 million jobs at risk. IATA VP Americas Peter Cerda stated: "In countries like Panama… it is worrying that the government has so far failed to take any firm action to provide tangible support to the industry". He added: "Same is true in Peru, where financial relief is urgently needed for an industry that is key… operations must be allowed to resume in Jul-2020". [more - original PR]
