IATA calls on European governments to cut emissions through sustainable fuels and technology

19 June, 2019

IATA called (19-Jun-2019) on European governments to encourage the development of new technologies and sustainable aviation fuels to cut carbon emissions rather than impose environmental taxes. This follows the Netherlands Government's proposed EU wide aviation tax, which is aimed to be introduced in 2021. IATA director general and CEO Alexandre de Juniac stated making "it more expensive for people to fly is not the answer" but investing in "clean fuels and new hybrid and electric technology" will "help airlines cut emissions in half by 2050".
