IATA: Australian domestic market growth remains weak

5 July, 2019

IATA reported (04-Jul-2019) domestic passenger volumes in Australia rose by a "soft" 1.1% year-on-year in May-2019, up from 0.9% in Apr-2019. Despite the slight increase, the period of weakness in Australia's passenger market continues. IATA stated airlines continue to increase capacity "equally modestly", at a similar rate to demand. This has kept load factor broadly steady over the past year. In seasonally adjusted terms, RPKs have trended slightly lower since their most recent peak in Dec-2017. [more - original PR]
