IAG CEO: Group plans on becoming a ‘significant player’ in the low cost long haul market

IAG CEO Willie Walsh outlined the group’s plans to expand in the low cost long haul market, stating: “I think, particularly in the low cost long-haul [market], there is a profitable and not yet fully exploited segment that we intend to be a significant player in” (AIN Online, 07-Aug-2018). Mr Walsh added: “The difference between our attitude and approach [with Norwegian] is that we believe we can do that profitably and generate the returns that we have set for all our airlines”. As previously reported by CAPA, IAG is a minority shareholder in Norwegian and plans to achieve a full takeover within 12 months.
