Sheraton on the Park to undergo mega renovation
Sheraton on the Park announced (05-Sep-2017) it would undergo an AUD40 million renovation of its guestrooms, suites and Executive Club Lounge, scheduled for completion in early 2018. The renovation will include the hotel’s 558 rooms and suites as well as the 21st floor, Sheraton Club which will be reconfigured to frame the views of Sydney Harbour, Hyde Park and St Mary’s Cathedral. The Club entrance will be elegantly defined by Bubinga wooden panels, with sliding doors – inside the individual spaces for guests include a private reading room, an open lounge with fireplace, and an executive board room. The hotel’s Hyde Park location inspired the guestrooms’ colour scheme of subtle pale green and grey tones, with stained, natural oak timber furniture and lush fabrics.
All Suites Brands by Hilton Opened a New Hotel Nearly Every Four Days During the First Half of 2017
All Suites brands by Hilton hotels, and Embassy Suites, Homewood Suites and Home2 Suites announced (06-Sep-2017) it is averaging a new hotel opening every four days in 2017. The All Suites brands have opened 49 new hotels over the past six months, and have nearly 80 hotels in the current pipeline that are scheduled to open in 2017. By capitalising on synergies across development, marketing/sales, and operations, the All Suites brands have grown their combined pipeline to 550 pending hotels. The category is on track to open the 1,000th All Suites hotel before the end of 2019.
Wellington welcomes back Sofitel
Sofitel Wellington announced (12-Sep-2017) it will reopen its doors in Oct-2017 and welcome back its original opening team, following a temporary hiatus. The 129-room, 14-storey hotel is nestled between Wellington’s iconic landmarks The Beehive and the Botanical Gardens. Sofitel Wellington GM Stephen Gould said: “We are so excited to reopen our doors and pick up where we left off; offering Wellington locals, Kiwi travellers and tourists alike a place to relax and enjoy in a refined environment with a sophisticated ambience. It is important for us to resume our reputation as one of the capital’s finest hotels where guests come first.”
Carlson Rezidor appoints Katerina Giannouka as president of Asia Pacific
Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group appointed (13-Sep-2017) of Katerina Giannouka as president, Asia Pacific. Giannouka will be based in Singapore, at Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group’s Asia Pacific headquarters, and join no later than 04-Dec-2017. Giannouka will report directly to John Kidd, chief executive officer and chief operating officer, Carlson Hotels Inc, and be a member of Carlson Hotels’ Executive Leadership Committee where she will work in tandem with the global and Asia Pacific leadership teams to drive success and growth for Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group. Giannouka will be responsible for leading the Asia Pacific executive committee and its corporate offices in Singapore, Shanghai and Delhi.
The Ritz-Carlton unveils tropical paradise in Malaysia
The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company, announced (21-Sep-2017) the opening of The Ritz-Carlton, Langkawi, an oceanfront resort on the Malaysian island. Set in a tranquil private bay, the resort is surrounded by an ancient jungle, while its beachfront is shelter by trees and gently lapped by the Andaman Sea. Designed to reflect the beauty and vibrancy of the nearby traditional villages The Ritz-Carlton, Langkawi incorporates influences from local culture, creating a uniquely luxurious retreat with an authentic touch. The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company President and COO Hervé Humler said: “We are thrilled to be introducing The Ritz-Carlton to Langkawi. This exciting opening marks our first resort destination in Malaysia, and the second property in the country following The Ritz-Carlton, Kuala Lumpur.”
Sydney’s Curio Collection by Hilton set to open in Dec-2017
Curio Collection by Hilton announced the signing of its first hotel in Sydney, under a management agreement with M&L Hospitality. Located at 65 Sussex Street, the new build 182-room Curio Collection by Hilton is due to be ready by the end of 2017. Curio Collection by Hilton global head Mark Nogal stated: “As the first Curio Collection hotel in Australia, the signing of West Hotel Sydney is an exciting achievement for us. Sydney has an eclectic and diverse mix of people, cultures and experiences – all of which are reflected in this property.”
