Flughafenverband ADV: Germany increase in aviation taxes is a 'heavy burden' for the industry

16 October, 2019

German Airport Association (Flughafenverband ADV) issued (16-Oct-2019) a response to the decision of the German Federal Cabinet to increase aviation taxes to up to EUR59 per passenger, stating it represents a "heavy burden" for German carriers in the face of tough international competition, as well as being "incomprehensible" given the industry's commitment to ecological responsibility. ADV warned long term consequences will be the loss of airline connections, impacting private and business travel and potentially pushing "more and more German airports are in the red". The association noted that only in the UK and Australia are aviation taxes higher and called for a "correction" to both the scope and design of the increase. [more - original PR - German]
