Fitch: US airport traffic to keep growing in 2018, however federal initiatives could affect sector

Fitch Ratings stated (12-Feb-2018) passenger traffic for US airports rose in 2017 to their highest levels in over a decade, with boardings growing an estimated 3.3%. Fitch projected traffic will continue to grow in 2018 by 2.5% to 3%. Fitch stated however, that its optimism over traffic growth is "more guarded than industry forecasts". Fitch senior director Seth Lehman stated: "Wildcards for the sector remain federal initiatives, and with a new Federal Reserve Chairman now in place, the future trajectory of interest rates could affect both business and leisure travel".
