Fiji's Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum said the Government is not considering construction of a new airport at Salialevu, in the south of Taveuni (Fiji Times, 26-Jan-2018). Mr Sayed-Khaiyum however confirmed the Government plans to extend Matei Airport. "We are currently in talks with owners of the land on which the current airport sits because we intend to extend the airport... The runway is short and we are trying to extend it to cater for the ATR 72 plane".
