Every EUR1 of tourist revenue spent in Greece equates up to EUR2.65 rise in GDP: SETE

Greek Tourism Confederation (SETE) president Yiannis Retsos addressed (31-May-2018) Greece's Prime Minister Alex Tsipras and identified areas for the development of Greek tourism. He noted Greece met all tourism goals in 2017, with inbound traffic growing 7.4% year-on-year to 30.1 million tourists. Tourism revenue from abroad increased 11.4% to EUR1.45 billion, while tourist activity is estimated to contribute EUR18.3 billion to GDP. "For every EUR1 of tourist revenue, the country's GDP is rises from EUR2.2 to EUR2.65", Mr Retsos said. Mr Retsos said focuses for 2018 included developing the link between tourism and culture, education/vocational training, development of tourism consciousness and a wider collaborative platform with the agriculture and food sectors.
