European regional airports facing 'stall' in pax traffic: ACI Europe DG

ACI Europe DG Oliver Jankovec noted (10-Jul-2019) a "stall" in passenger traffic at smaller regional airports in May-2019, which is indicative of "fragility and the usually tougher trading conditions they face". ACI Europe stated European regional airports "underperformed" the European average, with passenger traffic decreasing 0.3% year-on-year. Mr Jankovec argued developing or maintaining current levels of air connectivity will be "challenging" for these airports as airlines are now becoming more risk averse, focused on protecting yields and with consolidation progressing.
