European major hubs being outgrown by other regions

CAPA – Centre for Aviation, in a report entitled: ‘European airport “connectivity” growth slows’, stated (25-Jul-2019) ACI Europeattributed slow growth in Europe‘s direct connectivity in 2019 to airline consolidation and risk aversion, in addition to increasing airport capacity constraints. Part of the cause is also an underlying softening of demand. LCCs have been almost the only driver of direct connectivity growth in Europe over the past decade but growth is beginning to slow. Looking beyond short to medium term changes in connectivity growth trends, Europe will be only too aware that its major hubs are being outgrown by those of other regions.
