Emirates reports Australia is attractive and growing market; could upgauge Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide to A380s

    Emirates president Tim Clark said Australia remains a strong market for the airline, with Sydney and Melbourne the most attractive, Adelaide a slightly weaker market and Perth subject to very strong competition from other sixth freedom airlines (The Age, 31-Jan-2018).Its president Tim Clark said the airline is likely to upgauge its operating into BrisbanePerth and Adelaide from Boeing 777 to A380 equipment, following its recent MoU for 20 more A380s. According to the CAPA Fleet Database, the airline has 101 A380s in service, 41 more on firm order and 20 more to be finalised into firm orders. Mr Clark added that the carrier’s partnership with Qantasunderwent a strategic adjustment when Qantas CEO Alan Joyce began to realise “that the partnership was so strong, with our metal doing so much in the west for him, that it was perhaps a good time to rethink their strategy”.
