In this week’s exclusive Blue Swan Daily Infographic, we take a closer look at the growing aviation market by focusing on global capacity. In Aug-2018, global capacity increased 5.6% year-on-year and is up by 750,000 seats from Jul-2018. Over the past 12 months:
- 17 country pairs were connected for the first time;
- Globally, the Russia-Saudi Arabia market added the most capacity, with the addition of 12,600 seats;
- 371 new airport pairs were connected for the first time;
- Kolkata-Jorhat and Osaka Kansai-Kushiro routes stood out, both adding 11,160 new seats.
Specifically for EMEA, the region will see seat capacity grow 5.7% year-on-year in Aug-2018, and a slight increase of 0.6% from Jul-2018.
58% of flights were operated by a non-alliance airline, followed by Star Alliance with 19.4% and SkyTeam with 13.4%. 184 new airport pairs were launched in Aug-2018 with close to 212,000 seats.
Additionally, AirExplore, a Slovakia based charter airline, had their first scheduled flight operating 8,300 seats with Hong Kong-Koror Airai service.
