easyJet publishes gender pay gap figures, lower female wages due to majority male pilots

    easyJet published the following figures on its gender pay gap (Bloomberg/Independent, 28-Nov-2017):

    • UK based female staff payed 50% lower than average UK based male staff;
    • Average pilot salary: GBP92,400;
      • 1407 male pilots;
      • 86 female pilots;
    • Average cabin crew salary: GBP24,800;
      • 2002 female cabin crew;
      • 898 male cabin crew;
    • Men account for 89% of highest paid staff;
    • Women account for 68% of lowest paid staff.

    As previously reported by CAPA, easyJet aims to ensure 20% of its cadet pilots are female by 2020 and is actively engaged in recruiting more women.
