Dunedin Airport: New Zealand needs to be 'split' into 'larger chunks'

16 October, 2019

Dunedin Airport CEO Richard Roberts, speaking at the CAPA New Zealand Aviation & Corporate Travel Summit, stated (16-Oct-2019) there needs to be "conversations" about "splitting" New Zealand into "far less" than 31 regions, as a "vast majority" of these regions have no cash, nothing to market and nothing to offer internationally. He noted the tourist has "no idea" when they're crossing borders, as they don't "feel" it. He stated the New Zealand tourism industry is "saying all the right things" but now needs to "start doing it", adding there is a need to "split" the country into "larger chunks" and get "those chunks to talk to each other".
