Domestic visitors to Outback Queensland increase by more than 20%

Tourism Research Australia released tourism results for the year ending Sep-2017, showing the number of domestic visitors to Outback Queensland increased by more than 20% (Courier Mail, 08-Jan-2018). The results also highlighted that visitors stayed longer, with the number of nights increasing by 17%, while tourism spending increased by 36%. Part of the increase has been attributed to a renewed focus by Tourism and Events Queensland (TEQ) in promoting the state’s Outback events, such as the Birdsville races and Mt Isa rodeo. TEQ CEO Leanne Coddington said bucket list events were just an excuse to head west for a holiday.
