DATA SPOTLIGHT: Ukraine

24 March, 2020

This year The Blue Swan Daily will feature some of the leading airlines, airports and country markets for air travel. Here, using the extensive profile insights available to CAPA - Centre for Aviation members to deliver a data snapshot, we look at Ukraine, a country whose aviation sector has faced a fair share of disruption over recent years, but, like many others is seeing demand bottom out due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

From this week, Ukraine's minister of infrastructure, Vladyslav Kryklii, has confirmed a government decision has been reached to close all airports across in the country, with the exception of Kyiv Boryspil International Airport, its main gateway. This will be supported by a wider ban on air travel for anyone travelling for leisure.

While Kyiv will continue to accept flight from the limited number of airlines that are still flying, measures are already in place to bring efficiencies to its operation. Its terminal D has already temporarily been closed, with operations focused at terminal F, with the exception of the last remaining charter arrivals, medical flights and evacuation services where arrivals are housed in terminal B to avoid potential contamination.
